Who we are

About us

Global Social Business Partners was founded in 2010 by Narima Amin, inspired by her own childhood experience of food insecurity. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Bellevue, Washington.

Inspired by Professor Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen model, we use social business to combat poverty: social business incubation, weekly emergency food distribution, permaculture education and youth-driven innovation.

What we do

Programs that turn ideas into lasting local change

Our approach

What is a social business?

A social business is a company created to solve a social problem. It sustains itself financially, and its profits go back into the mission instead of to shareholders. Every program we run is built on this idea.

The seven principles of social business

Professor Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize laureate
  1. The objective is to overcome poverty, or problems such as education, health, technology access and environment that threaten people and society, not to maximize profit.

  2. The business is financially and economically sustainable.

  3. Investors get back only their investment. No dividend is paid beyond it.

  4. Once the investment is repaid, profit stays in the company for expansion and improvement.

  5. The business is gender sensitive and environmentally conscious.

  6. The workforce earns a market wage with better working conditions.

  7. Do it with joy.

Global goals, local action

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The 17 Global Goals guide our work, from ending poverty and hunger to quality education and partnerships. ISEED applicants show how their social business advances them.

Our ecosystem
